Organizations divide work into departments, functions, processes, systems, and areas of responsibility because they have to. It is how complex businesses are managed.
But while organizations operate in silos, business outcomes don't.
A decision in one area can change the conditions in another. A delay upstream can create idle time downstream. A single unexpected disruption can ripple across production, capacity, inventory, costs, customer commitments, and revenue.
And improving the performance of one process doesn't necessarily improve the performance of the business. In fact, optimizing one area independently can sometimes create a new constraint somewhere else.

A customer-service issue may originate in planning, procurement, production, logistics, or even the information available when an earlier decision was made.

Only then do we determine the right technology and where to apply it.
The problem you can see isn't always the problem you need to solve.
